Chelsea star Mason Mount has refused to compare himself with Kevin de Bruyne: 'There's a lot I need to do to get anywhere near him

The two midfielders faced each other in recent Nations League game.

Mount's man-of-the-match performance prompted pundits to draw the comparison between him and the Man City star.

However, Mount admits that he needs to improve a lot to be spoken about in such terms.

"Seeing De Bruyne up close and personal there's a lot I need to do to improve my game to get anywhere near him," Mason Mount told Sky Sports.

"The game [against Belgium] was very tough, they're a very good side, have world-class players so you're not going to have many chances.

"We had to be at the top of our game and I thought we were throughout the game.

"They're a very good team and there are reasons why they are the number one team in the world."

It was Jaime Redknapp who claimed that Mount has the qualities and the potential to play a similar role to the one Kevin de Bruyne performs for Man City and Belgium.

Mount has already been immense for Frank Lampard, playing 90 minutes in 5 of Chelsea's 6 games this season so far, but it's good to know that he's level-headed enough not to be carried away with such comparisons.
