Diario Sport: Real Madrid made an unsuccessful attempt to snatch Ronald Araujo away from Barcelona


Araujo's transfer might actually be the best piece of business the club has done in the last few years.

Ronald Araujo joined Barcelona from Uruguayan club Boston River back in 2018 for €1.7m.

A week before his move was completed, however, Real Madrid called Araujo's old club to ask about his availability, Diario Sport claim.

However, the Catalans didn't even have to convince the defender to join us over Los Blancos.

Our sporting director Ramon Planes had been following the Uruguayan since he was still working at Getafe and he had already agreed the move with the youngster.

Araujo joined Barca B at first, where he stayed for two seasons, and recorded six goals and three assists in 44 matches for the reserves.

This season, Ronald has been promoted to the first team and has been given the no.4 jersey; so far, he has managed two matches and did great in both of them.
