Facts and reason behind Barcelona captain Leo Messi failed transfer to Chelsea in 2014

Last week, we published Gianluca di Marzio's staggering revelation on Leo Messi's failed move to Chelsea.

The transfer guru claimed the Argentine wanted to join Jose Mourinho and even held talks with the Portuguese coach back in 2004.

However, Di Marzio got messed up with the numbers as the said conversations took place in 2014 rather than in 2004.

We've learnt about the mistake in Gianluca's book Grand Hotel Calciomercato which has been published recently.

Messi and Mourinho discussed the potential transfer via Facetime which clearly didn't exist in 2004.

Jose almost persuaded Messi to move to London but Leo's father and agent didn't allow this sensational transfer to happen.

The Argentine has never hidden the fact he considered leaving Barcelona in 2014 because of the tax evasion case.

As a reminder, Leo and his father Jorge were accused of hiding more than 10 million euros in marketing revenues from the Spanish officials back in 2016.

The Blaugrana star was sentenced to 21 months in jail but the Spanish law allowed him not to serve his time.

In any case, Messi went nowhere and won the treble with Barcelona in the 2014/2015 season.

Mourinho, for his part, moved to Manchester United and then to Tottenham after being axed from Chelsea in December 2015.
