Koeman impressed with Barcelona 17yrs old and opens up on Coutinho benching

Koeman believes that Pedri has proven he has what it takes to play for Barca.

The boss decided to rest Coutinho as he's played a lot since the start of the season and had little time to rest.

The coach also says that having a lot of players leave for their national teams hurts Barca.

"Pedri was good. He showed that he has the quality to play for Barcelona," Ronald Koeman has told the press after the Getafe loss.

"We have given Philippe Coutinho an opportunity to rest because he played many games at the beginning of the season and had little time to recover. That's why we have put Pedri in."

"We have a lot of players leaving for their national teams, that works for all the great teams. It is difficult, for Real Madrid, for us and for all the great teams."

Against Getafe, Pedri got to start his first ever match at Barcelona, and the youngster put in a great performance. As for Coutinho, he came on in the second half but didn't have too big of an impact.

The Brazilian, however, has indeed had a tough schedule. 'Phil' was one of the last players to arrive for the pre-season as he got to play in the Champions League final with Bayern Munich. He went on to start all of Barca's matches before the international break and then also started in both matches for Brazil.
