Ex Barcelona left-back Sergi Barjuan urges the Catalan giants to prevent young players leaving for other teams.

Former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid left-back Sergi Barjuan believes the Catalan giants must do more to prevent young players leaving for other teams.

The famous La Masia academy produced the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and nurtured the talent of Lionel Messi.

But Barca have lost several youth players in recent seasons, with the most recent being Marc Jurado.

Jurado, 16, was a part of their Juvenil A side and was expected to push into the Barca B team in the next years.

The right-back was at La Masia ever since the age of seven, after he impressed scouts at a local club CF Can Rull.

But after nine years with the Catalan giants, he decided he would find more first team opportunities at Manchester United.

Now that he has signed for the Red Devils, Barca are wondering how they can stop other youth players from jumping ship.

Barjuan, who also coached within the Barca youth setup from 2009 to 2011, believes a lot has to be done.

He said in an exclusive interview with Tribal Football: "Yes, since the Bosman ruling and the EU passport opportunity has led to all of this, important players from the big clubs are leaving to seek opportunities at other clubs.

"Right now, it is like that and Barça has to react to these difficult situations and pre-empt them too."
