Leo Messi Barcelona future will heavily depend on who wins the club presidential election

Considering his relationship with Bartomeu, it's hard to believe that Messi will stay if someone from the old board is elected as president.

Whether Leo Messi continues at Barcelona or leaves for free next summer will have a lot to do with who wins the presidential elections planned for January, ESPN's reputable Moises Llorens and Samuel Marsden report.

The elected president will have to convince the Argentine that the new sporting project will bring the club success.

Candidates Victor Font and Jordi Farre have both said that, if elected, their first goal will be to offer Messi a new contract.

The registered presidential candidates are Victor Font, Lluis Fernandez, Jordi Farre, Agusti Benedito, Toni Freixa and Xavi Vilajoana while former boss Joan Laporta hasn't yet officially confirmed his intentions.

Leo's new deal expires already in June 2021, meaning that he can sign a pre-contract with a new club in January.

The 33-year-old tried to leave Barca back in summer but former president Josep Maria Bartomeu blocked the move.
