Reece James: how i went from emulating Drogba to playing rightback

Chelsea right-back revealed during an interview haw he gave up the dream of playing like Drogba to becoming a right back.

Reece James said he played up front when he was younger because Drogba was a hero to him and was then the man at Chelsea, so he wanted to be like him and completely idolised him.

James further revealed that he went into central midfield when was around 14 or 15. "I had a good spell there and got used to it. But it then got to a stage I wasn’t really playing and there were loads of midfielders in the team and the right-back position was free at the time. That’s how I found myself there.”

Drogba is one of Chelsea's greatest ever players and it's no surprise that James idolised him back when he was playing as a striker.

As they say, all's well that ends well - James' change in position from a forward to a right-back worked out perfectly for both the player and the club as he is superb at that position. Maybe 20 years down the line, youngsters will be talking about James the way he speaks of Drogba!

Reece James has gone on to become one of the best right-backs of his age which has lead him to become a regular starter at that position for lampard right after his impressive loan spell at wigan.
