'Technically, Barcelona are bankrupt': Victor Font calls for urgent elections

Victor Font believes the current economic situation puts the club's ownership model at risk.

He hopes the electronic voting will be implemented in the upcoming elections which are provisionally scheduled for around Christmas.

"Barca is practically in a situation of economic bankruptcy. Technically, it is bankrupt. This situation puts the ownership model at risk. I am surprised that no date has been set for the elections yet," presidential candidate Victor Font told Diario AS.

"The structural decisions must be made at the economic level. The wage situation is critical, and it is something the board should be addressing.

"But also, they must call elections. And we will have to make exceptions at the statutory and legal level. We asked [interim president] Tusquets to promote electronic voting. Hopefully, we can be a reference for modernity."

Last week, Carles Tusquets announced that the elections are expected to be held around Christmas but the coronavirus pandemic complicates the whole situation.

As for the claims on the potentially drastic consequences, the club could go bankrupt if they fail to reduce the wage bill by around €190m, reliable RAC1 have reported several times.
