Barca to Build Momentum at Cadiz

Barcelona have found some form over the last fortnight or so and the champions are expected to dispatch Cadiz at Estadio Ramon de Carranza this Saturday.

While Barca have qualified for the Last 16 of the Champions League with ease, their La Liga title defence has started extremely poorly and they suffered their third defeat in just eight league games away to Atletico Madrid two weeks ago (1-0).

Boss Ronald Koeman remains under maximum pressure at Camp Nou, however, the Dutchman has steered his side to a trio of convincing victories since that loss at Wanda Metropolitano.

Barca travel to Andalusia this weekend on the back of facile Champions League wins against Dynamo Kiev (0-4) and Ferencvaros (0-3), and most crucially a 4-0 thrashing of Osasuna last weekend which edged the Catalan giants up to seventh in the standings.

Their indifferent start means Barca are still a huge ten points behind leaders Real Sociedad, but they should at least climb further this Saturday by displacing sixth-placed Cadiz.

Alvaro Cervera’s side have made an excellent start to life in the top flight overall, however, the Yellow Submarine have picked up just one point from their last three starts while they’re yet to win in five starts at Estadio Ramon de Carranza this term (D2, L3).

So Barca should be more than capable of building some more momentum here and based on their recent goalscoring form, we’re backing the champions to win with over 2.5 goals netted in the game. In the correct score market, 1-3 stands out as the visitors have only kept once away clean sheet in four.

Team news

Barcelona will miss 4 players through injuries: Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Philippe Coutinho and Leo Messi are back to the squad after resting against Ferencvaros while Ronald Araujo receives the medical all-clear.

Experienced striker Alvaro Negredo is doubtful.

Manager quotes

💬 Ronald Koeman (Barca): "Cadiz seem to have a hard time earning points at home, but they're doing good, and they're a tricky opponent, so we have to be focused."

💬 Alvaro Cervera (Cadiz): "We know that Barca are better than us, but it is football. We all like football because it often happens that the underdog wins. We're going to make them feel uncomfortable and look for the right moment to hurt them. Hurting Barca is not done with possession of eight passes, it is done by speed, passing the ball forward and this is our plan for the game." (h/t Diario AS)

SportsMole's Matt Law: Cadiz 1-3 Barcelona

"Cadiz deserves huge praise for their form this season, but Barca will enter the match in a confident mood courtesy of three impressive wins in all competitions. The home side are certainly capable of making it a tricky fixture for the Catalan giants, but we expect the visitors to collect all three points on Saturday night."
