Chelsea players rating in Everton loss: James 7 with outstanding performance

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s insouciant penalty and an admirable defensive performance gave Everton a stirring victory over Chelsea

A few Chelsea players greatly disappointed in the Blues 1-0 loss to Everton.

Reece James - 7

James was the only player that looked likely to create something for Chelsea. Shuttling up and down the right flank, the young full-back had an excellent shot tipped onto the post by Jordan Pickford. Picked up a yellow card however and was unable to put any exceptional crosses into the box.

Kurt Zouma - 7

Zouma was good for Chelsea in the heart of their defence today. Dealt admirably with the threat of Calvert-Lewin. Couldn't do anything about Everton's goal as it was a result of Mendy's error in judgement.

Mason Mount - 6.5

Mount had a very average game, failing to assert his dominance against Everton's midfield. However, he came incredibly close to providing Chelsea with a goal when his free-kick hit the post in the second half.

Edouard Mendy - 5

Mendy didn't have too much to do against Everton but it was his mistake that ended up being the difference. Had no reason to come rushing out when Calvert-Lewin was clearly getting to the ball first. Uncharacteristic for Chelsea's new goalkeeper.

Olivier Giroud - 4.5

After an excellent few games in the past couple of weeks, Giroud was completely uninvolved in the game against Everton. With no natural wingers playing for Chelsea, there was no service for the striker to feast on but he didn't make himself very available either. Blasted one high into the night sky late.

Kai Havertz - 4

Havertz continues to struggle as he tries to adapt to life in the Premier League. The German was played on the right-wing today and provided next to no impetus to Chelsea's attack. Lost the ball numerous times and slowed the attack down too. Needs to do better.

The Rest: Chilwell - 5.5, Thiago Silva - 6.5, Kante - 6, Kovacic - 6, Werner - 6.5, Abraham - 6, Gilmour - n/a
