Jose Mourinho not happy with Manchester United's Europa League place
The Red Devils are out of the Champions League and will continue their 2020/21 campaign in the Europa League.
Mourinho wonders why a failure in one competition is rewarded with a place in another.
Speaking to the media ahead of Tottenham's final Europa League group stage game of the season, Jose Mourinho said: "From the sport point of view I think it's not fair that a team that doesn't succeed in one competition drops to another.
"No doubt the quality improves, the intensity improves and it's a good thing for the competition. But it's a point of principle, and if it happened to my team, I would feel exactly the same. But it brings more quality to the competition.
"We cannot forget that when you have eight new teams in the competition – eight teams that belong to another level and they drop to the Europa League – of course, the level of the competition is going to improve."
While Manchester United can't be drawn against Tottenham in the Round of 32, the Red Devils could be set for a reunion with Mourinho in the latter stages of the competition.
