Juventus manager: Lionel Messi suffering from 'psychological problem' after failed Barcelona summer exit

Messi handed in a transfer request at Barca in August, but the club refused to let the 33-year-old leave and Leo hasn't been at his best since then.

The Argentine's form has probably been affected by that exit story, says the Juventus boss.

"He is at a special moment in his life, not in his career, because he had a problem this summer," Juventus head coach Andrea Pirlo told the pre-Barcelona presser of Lionel Messi, as quoted by Marca.

"[It's about] whether he would stay at Barcelona or not.

"But during games, he has always shown his value. More than a football [issue], he probably has a psychological problem, but I don't want to go into it, as it has nothing to do with us.

"Messi is a phenomenon and he has shown it."

The Argentine handed in a transfer request at Barcelona in the summer but the Catalans refused to let him go. The 33-year-old has scored just two goals from open play in 10 La Liga matches this season so far.

Leo, on the other hand, is on three goals and two assists in three Champions League games. He'll try to improve his record in Tuesday's clash with Juve at Camp Nou.
