Reason Why Dani Alves chose Guardiola over Mourinho in 2007 revealed.

The Brazilian reveals he was completely sure he would join Chelsea but the move never happened, spoiling the relationship between Dani and Mourinho.

The following year, Guardiola came to Barca and asked Alves to join him.

Back then, Pep said to Dani he could only face the Barca challenge if the Brazilian followed him.

"I was this close," Dani Alves told Sky Sports in November 2018, reflecting on his failed transfer to Chelsea in 2007.

"I didn't go to Chelsea because of the club, not because of me. I thought it was done, that I was going there to work with him [Jose Mourinho]," he added.

"I don't know if he got different information, that I didn't want to go or whatever, because since then our relationship hasn't been so good, but it wasn't my fault."

Instead, Dani waited for a year and joined Pep Guardiola at Barca for €35.5m.

On the Barca move, the Brazilian said: "I remember the first chat we had. From the first moment, he made it very, very, very, very, very clear what he wanted and why had taken the job.

"He had a tremendous desire to do something different as a manager of that club. Obviously, it was going to be a challenge, but I remember he said, 'I can only do it if you follow me.'

Alves concluded, cheeky as ever: "It didn't turn out too badly for him, eh?"

Dani won 14 trophies with Guardiola, including 2 Champions Leagues. He left Barca for free in 2016.
