'Sometimes it is good to hit rock bottom to lift your head': Ex Barca Assistant Sarabia

Quique Setien's eight-month stint at Camp Nou ended in the painful defeat to the Bundesliga giants in August.

His assistant coach 'doesn't have nightmares' about that Champions League night.

Actually, Sarabia believes that the 8-2 humiliation could help the Catalans make a fresh start.

“I do not have nightmares about Bayern because there were many things that were not in our control,” Eder Sarabia, Quique Setien's assistant coach at Barcelona, said in an interview with Marca of Barca's 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in August.

“You analyse it and it is undoubted that they were better, they had a great day although we also had our moments. I remember one from Luis Suarez, another when Busquets hit the post … the game could have changed.

“But that was a consequence of many things in the past, but we look forward. There are players like Pique who have come out and have explained things well.

“When you have not done things well for so long, these kinds of things happen.”

Barcelona have endured a rather mixed start to the season under Ronald Koeman as the Catalans now sit in ninth in the La Liga table with 14 points after 10 games.

Sarabia, however, believes that the 8-2 loss in Lisbon was the Catalans' lowest point in recent history and helped Barca make a fresh start.

“Sometimes it is good to hit rock bottom to lift your head,” he concluded. "It was our turn. It is a shame what happened, but we do not have any grudges.”
