Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone pips Pep Guardiola to win world's best coach of the decade award

The Argentine gets named the best coach of the decade even though Pep won THRICE as many trophies between 2011 and 2020.

Diego Simeone has been named the best coach of the decade by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

The Argentine is ahead of Pep Guardiola who beats him in total trophies won during the same run.

Simeone won 7 trophies while Pep claimed 22 trophies managing Barca, Bayern and Manchester City.

Here're the full rankings:

IFFHS world's top-20 best coaches of the decade (2011-2020):

Diego Simeone - 152

Josep Guardiola - 144

Jürgen Klopp - 105

Jose Mourinho - 91

Maximiliano Allegri - 77

Unai Emery - 70

Zinedine Zidane - 59

Carlo Ancelotti - 57

Mauricio Pochettino - 56

Marcelo Gallardo - 56

Antonio Conte - 53

Claudio Ranieri - 36

Alex Ferguson - 35

Luis Enrique - 35

Josef Heynckes - 34

Ernesto Valverde - 26

Arsene Wenger - 25

Leonardo Jardim - 25

Jesse Marsh - 22

Laurent Blanc - 21

The players were given points for their previous results in each of yearly rankings - 20 points for the 1st place, 19 points for the second, etc.

Still, the rankings look confusing. Simeone won the yearly award just once, finishing 2nd also once. By contrast, Guardiola won the annual award twice, finishing as a runner-up 2 times.
