The Catalans reportedly can't afford the Argentine's wages despite recent reports linking him with a free transfer to Barca.

Sergio Aguero's move to Barcelona in the summer is all but impossible due to the Catalans' financial situation, according to The Athletic.

Earlier this week, The Sun claimed that the Blaugrana want to land the Man City striker on a free transfer at the end of the season.

As per much more reliable The Athletic, the reality is that Barca are 'flat broke' and can't afford the Argentine's wages.

Aguero's £230,000-a-month contract at the Citizens expires in June.

Thus, the Catalans will be targeting 'young players on relatively low salaries' in the summer transfer window.
