Danny Murphy: 'It hurts to say this but I believe Man United are back'

The Red Devils are level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table. Murphy believes Solskjaer would make Man United deserving champions.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy said: "It hurts me to say this as an ex-Liverpool man but welcome back, Manchester United. My natural instinct isn't to wish Man United well.

"But I have to appreciate that seeing them in the title mix, currently joint-top with Liverpool, is good for the game. Nothing can compare with seeing the biggest two clubs in the country going toe to toe.

"Man United's revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is an example that patience can be the best policy towards a manager. There have been many times when Solskjaer has been written off but he's always found a way.

"I think Solskjaer has conducted himself remarkably well over the past couple of years. He is hard to dislike. And if the worst happens and United end up champions, Solskjaer is the one person you wouldn't mind winning."

The Red Devils, who are currently level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, will play their rescheduled Matchday 1 clash away at Burnley on January 12 before travelling to Anfield on January 17.
