Darren Fletcher reacts to joining Solskjaer’s coaching staff

The former United midfielder reveals he spoke to Ole a few weeks ago to finalize his role in the coaching team.

Fletcher terms this as ‘a unique experience’ in his career.

Speaking after joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team coaching staff, Darren Fletcher told Man United’s official website: “I’m delighted to be back and excited to work with the staff.

“Ole, Kieran [McKenna], Carras [Michael Carrick], Mike Phelan and the rest of the coaches; the players, you know some fantastic players to work with at the beginning of my coaching journey.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity and I’m just delighted to finally be in today, my first day in a new job today. I spoke to Ole a couple of weeks ago and it’s finally getting things sorted to come in today.

“It’s been a unique experience. I’ve been a player but now I’m on the side, on the coaching staff, so it’s a little bit different. I’m buzzing and cannot wait to get started.”

Fletcher had worked as a coach for United U16s side for a few months before being promoted into the first-team fold. Having made more than 300 appearances in 10+ year career as a player for the Red Devils, the Scotsman has the United DNA inscribed in him and will look to use that experience to improve some of the younger players in the squad.
