Koeman gives reason behind Puig's early substitution in Cornella win

Riqui Puig started his first game for Barca this season against the Segunda B side on Thursday.

Ronald Koeman, however, subbed the midfielder off at half-time.

The 21-year-old was booked that's why he had to be replaced, says the Dutchman.

"Riqui was booked, and that's why I subbed him off," Ronald Koeman explained following Barcelona's 2-0 win over Cornella in the Spanish Cup on Thursday.

Koeman gave Riqui Puig his first start of the season against the Segunda B side. The 21-year-old, however, was shown a yellow card in the 7th minute of the encounter which led to his substitution at half-time.

It was Ousmane Dembele who replaced Puig on the pitch and eventually scored Barca's winner in the extra time.
