Vilajoana says that Pedri has ended up proving the doubters wrong. Apparently, not everybody approved of paying €5m for the youngster.
"When we signed Pedri, many called us crazy to pay €5m for a 16-year-old boy. In the end, time puts everyone in their place. Pedri is one of Barcelona's great successes in recent years," former Barcelona B and Femeni director Xavier Vilajoana has told El Transistor.
Barcelona signed Pedri from Las Palmas in 2019 for €5m, with the midfielder agreeing to a five-year deal. However, they immediately loaned him back to his former club, and the youngster ended up joining the Catalans only in 2020.
Despite his age, the 18-year-old quickly became an integral part of Ronald Koeman's Barca and has now recorded three goals and two assists in 22 matches.
As for Vilajoana, he's currently running for presidency.
