Key Point

Six of Chelsea’s seven matches under Thomas Tuchel have featured fewer than three goals.

Atletico Madrid’s last four Champions League games produced just six goals, with none of them going over 2.5.

Atletico Madrid have drawn three of their last four Champions League games, with two of them ending 1-1.

Atleti hope to bounce back after weekend defeat

Atletico Madrid’s seven match unbeaten streak came to a surprising end on Saturday as the La Liga leaders were beaten at home to Levante, but that takes nothing away from the fantastic season they’re having right now.

Diego Simeone’s side sit three points clear at the top of La Liga with a game in hand over second place Real Madrid, and after emerging as the best side in the country this season they will be quietly confident about their chances in the Champions League.

However, with them coming up against a Chelsea side transformed under Thomas Tuchel, this match perhaps isn’t one for the neutrals to look forward to.

Tuchel transforms Chelsea back-line

Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday made it seven games unbeaten for Chelsea under Tuchel, and the most vivid transformation has been in their defensive line. They have reverted to a back three under the German manager and have conceded just two goals in seven games, focusing heavily on possession based football but as of yet struggling to find that attacking rhythm.

On Tuesday they face an Atletico Madrid side who are more than capable of soaking up pressure with their own three-man defence. They have conceded just 16 La Liga goals this season and, after their 4-0 demolition in Munich on matchday one, have conceded four in their last five Champions League group games.

Goals at a premium in Budapest

Atleti’s last four group games featured just six goals in total and all of them produced fewer than three goals and, with Tuchel’s Chelsea only breaching the overs line once in seven attempts, backing under 2.5 goals on Tuesday looks a great shout.

We are expecting a close game in Budapest. Two of Atletico’s last four Champions League games ended 1-1 and Chelsea played out an identical stalemate on the south coast on Saturday, so we’re opting for another 1-1 correct score prediction here.
