Diogo Dalot blast by Italian media after 'disastrous' performance

Diogo Dalot is likely to return to Manchester United with AC Milan loan star slammed by the Italian media following a disastrous performance in the Rossoneri's loss to Spezia over the weekend.

Stefan Pioli's side lost ground in the Serie A title race in a surprise 2-0 defeat by their midtable rivals, with Dalot making just his fifth start for the side since joining on loan from the Red Devils last summer.

But it was a day to forget for the Portuguese defender, with the Italian press heaping criticism on the 21-year-old.

Milan News described his display as 'disastrous' and 'horrible' while Sky Italia pundit Stefano De Grandis dubbed him 'the worst' player on the pitch. Milan Live added that Dalot had a 'largely negative performance, which was rejected by everyone.

‘It is not the first time that Dalot has not shown himself up to par,' the latter outlet added. 'Apart from the San Siro match against Europa League opponents Sparta Prague, in which he scored a goal and an assist, his performances have never been really positive.’

Dalot joined the ambitious Italian side in October in desperate need of kickstarting his career, having endured a miserable season at Old Trafford with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not favouring the full back.

The Portuguese joined the Red Devils from Porto in 2018 and was utilised by Jose Mourinho, but inconsistent performances saw him drop down the pecking order.

Last month, Dalot bemoaned a series of injuries that hampered his development as Aaron Wan-Bisakka and Brandon Williams seized their chances in the starting eleven.

'Of course, the feeling is a little deeper, more because I didn't have the time I liked physically,' he told Record.

'I spent great moments at United. I played very important games for me and the team.

'I left with a bit of a bittersweet feeling for not being physically available for all those games I lost due to injury.

'But it is what it is. I wouldn't change anything because what I learned was very important for my future and how I am now.

'I don't regret it or look back with disappointment.'
