Electing Laporta would be a mistake, he induced the club in debt: Barca Presidential candidate

Freixa believes that the current crisis is a result of mismanagement and the pandemic.

He suggests that Laporta taking charge at Barca against is a bad idea as he left the club in debt back in 2010.

The board Freixa was part of managed to turn the situation around and win titles, he claims.

"Our candidacy has an upward trajectory and the other two, if they are not declining, are stagnant.

"Barcelona are the biggest club in the world and, despite the situation, we must be optimistic because it will move forward. But we are at a compromised moment that is given by two factors; management that has mistaken the economic model and the pandemic," presidential candidate Toni Freixa has told Marca. Freixa then goes on to take a dig at Joan Laporta, whom he accuses of inducing the club in debt back in the day.

"In 2010. we found a club with a very similar economic situation, because when there is another candidate [Laporta] who says that he will do it again, it may be better if he does not do it because there was no pandemic at that point. We managed to redirect the situation, reduce the debt and to win titles."

Freixa was part of Barcelona's boards under Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu. He is currently one of the three presidential candidates at Camp Nou alongside Joan Laporta and Victor Font.

The presidential election at the club is scheduled for March 7.
