Fabrizio Roman: Real Madrid rejected Tottenham's last-minute approach for Eder Militao

Fabrizio Romano reveals that Tottenham was really interested in Militao and asked to sign him on loan with an option to buy in late January.

Yet Madrid refused because of the series of injuries which hit their defence.

"Yes, and we mentioned about Militao many times in the past few weeks, and the Tottenham possibility, and what we can say is that Tottenham was really interested in Militao," Fabrizio Romano revealed to the Here We Go Podcast.

"They were asking for him on a loan with a buy option and no obligation to buy, only a buy option in the last week of transfers, but Madrid said always no," the transfer guru added.

Romano explained why Blancos didn't want to part ways with Eder: "Because they have no centre-backs, a lot of injuries and the covid situation, so they were preferring to keep this player, and that’s why it was so complicated."

Indeed, Real Madrid's defensive situation remains rather complicated. Sergio Ramos and Nacho have returned to training only recently. Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal remain unavailable.

As for Eder Militao, he is currently serving a one-match ban after getting sent off against Levante last weekend.
