Manchester United has prioritised the signing of Konate over RB Leipzig teammate Upamecano

Manchester United are working to sign RB Leipzig youngster Ibrahima Konate in the summer.

The Red Devils believe the 21-year-old defender has what it takes to go all the way to the top.

Konate is often under the shadow of Dayot Upamecano, but scouts are equally impressed with his performances in central defence.

According to The Independent, United may look at Konate instead of Upamecano.

The latter appears likely to sign for Bayern Munich, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in acquiring his signature.

Konate, who has 11 caps for France, would provide Ole Gunnar Solskajer with the perfect centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.

Solskjaer believes United must solidify their defence this summer in order to challenge for the Premier League title.

Leipzig signed Konate from Sochaux in 2017 without much fanfare.

But the Bundesliga have continued their remarkable record of developing young players with not one but two exciting French defenders.
