Matheus declined Barca exist despite knowing he won't play

This January, Matheus Fernandes decided to stay at Barcelona despite knowing he won't get much action, Diario Sport report.

The 24-year-old had considered leaving on loan but in the end, nothing happened; it isn't clear whether there were any offers for him.

Matheus made only one appearance this term, playing 17 minutes in the away match against Dynamo Kyiv.

Ronald Koeman didn't play the Brazilian even in the cup match against third-tier side Cornella, preferring 18-year-old Ilaix Moriba ahead of him.

Matheus signed for us from Palmeiras last winter and joined the squad in the summer; the move cost the Catalans €7m.
