Presidential candidate Joan Laporta thinks Xavi is not ready to coach Barcelona

Laporta claims that he has a good relationship with Xavi despite him being part of Font's project.

The former president believes that Xavi still lacks experience but he could coach Barca in the future.

Koeman is the right man to do the job because he has the experience, Laporta believes.

"My relationship with Xavi continues to be very good," presidential candidate Joan Laporta has told RAC1. (h/t Diario Sport)

"We call each other often. In my project, I think that in the short, medium or long-term, he can coach Barcelona because he wants to.

"But he needs a little more preparation. The club requires experience. It's the same as we did with Rijkaard, who laid the foundations, and Pep Guardiola, who brought excellence.

"First of all, we have to respect Koeman, who has a contract. He's a Barcelona great and deserves all our respect, although results and performances count. The current situation requires experience."

As a reminder, presidential candidate Victor Font plans to bring Xavi to the club immediately if he wins the election. However, the former midfielder would serve as the club's general manager with Koeman continuing as the first-team coach.

Xavi is currently coaching Qatari club Al Sadd. The former Blaugrana midfielder has already won four trophies with the club.
