Suarez on leaving Barcelona: I knew that if I had stayed, I would've been attacked

Luis Suarez is puzzled that he was criticised for having a poor year last season despite winning player of the month in December 2019.

The Uruguayan adds that he doesn't regret leaving Barca.

If he had stayed, he would've been attacked by fans and media, he explains.

"People criticised me last year for not having a good year and before the injury, I scored 10 goals. I was the best player of the month in December but things are quickly forgotten," Luis Suarez has told Onda Cero.

"I see how things are at Barca and this calms me. I could have stayed, saying I have a contract and all that. But I knew that if I had stayed, I would've been attacked. I needed changes to save my pride," the Uruguayan added.

Barcelona offloaded Luis Suarez to Atletico last summer for financial reasons, as the club explained previously.

The Uruguayan scored 21 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Barca last season.
