Anthony Martial in race to be fit for clash against Brighton this weekend

Anthony Martial is caught up in a race to be fit for Manchester United's clash against Brighton due to the injury he has picked up on international duty.

The 25-year-old ace was forced off the field in France's 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualifying with an apparent issue with his left knee.

RMC Sport have claimed that Martial will miss out entirely on their next fixture against Bosnia on Wednesday - and is therefore at risk of being absent this weekend.

Martial has enjoyed a slight return to form in recent weeks and recorded an assist for the world champions before limping off with the aid of a physio.

Footage showed Martial appearing to catch his studs in the turf before feeling immediate discomfort.

It has been reported that the forward has sustained fibula damage - and it is not known how long the former Monaco man is expected to remain sidelined.

United return to action after the international break with another crucial top-flight encounter and are facing a selection dilemma in attack.

Martial has missed four games this month for his club due to a hip injury and there are question marks over the availability of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Rashford pulled out of the England senior squad with a foot setback last week while youngster Greenwood withdrew from the U21 camp.

Edinson Cavani may well be United's only available frontman - although the veteran has only recently returned from his own injury woes.

Despite the headache now posed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Martial has largely struggled to replicate his previous heroics for United this campaign.

He has netted 78 goals in 258 appearances at Old Trafford across just over five seasons, but only seven have arrived this term.

United are rapidly approaching a crucial run of fixtures that may well decide whether their season will be judged as a success or not.

The first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Granada awaits after Brighton.

After that, they will then take on Tottenham ahead of the second leg, before facing Burnley, Leeds and Liverpool.
