Atletico Madrid on edge over Joao Felix injury

Joao Felix was forced to leave the field on Tuesday night during Portugal's World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg, causing alarm bells to ring at Atletico Madrid.

Fortunately for Los Rojiblancos, it doesn't seem to be a severe injury although they are waiting to hear from the Portuguese medical team on what the post-match tests revealed.

In his two seasons at Atletico, Felix has suffered plenty of knocks to his ankles.

Last season, his two longest periods on the sidelines were caused by ailments in his ankles.

On October 19, 2019, he had to withdraw from the field against Valencia with ten minutes to go due to a second grade sprain of the external lateral ligament of the right ankle that caused him to miss a month of action. It was the first serious mishap since he arrived at Atletico.

After the first lockdown, the Portuguese starlet missed three league games in July due to another ankle issue.

This season he has been carrying ankle discomfort since the Copa del Rey defeat to Cornella.

The forward, due to his quality, receives special attention from opponents, which doesn't help his cause at all.

Now both the player and Diego Simeone will be hoping his latest scare doesn't affect Atletico's end to the season as they fight for the title.
