Juve alarmed over Ramsey's Wales call-up after missing last match through injury

Juventus have been left alarmed by Wales' decision to call up Aaron Ramsey for their World Cup qualifiers even though he missed the Italian champions' last match through injury.

Ramsey was named in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and the Czech Republic, as well as a friendly against Mexico, despite suffering a thigh problem which Juventus expect will keep him out until after the international break.

They do not expect him to be involved in their home game against Benevento in Serie A on Sunday as they await results of a scan.

Wales stand-in boss Rob Page insists Juventus' wishes will be respected throughout and Sportsmail understands the club would much prefer Ramsey not to travel - especially with coronavirus cases on the rise again in many countries across Europe.

Ramsey remains a key player for Wales even though he has started only three of their last 20 matches.

He scored both goals in the decisive qualifier against Hungary in November 2019, which sealed the Dragons' place at Euro 2020.

But Ramsey, 30, is highly regarded by Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo, who would rather not take what he sees is an unnecessary risk.

'He has physical problems which mean he struggles to have a run of games because after every two or three games he has to sit out,' admitted Pirlo. 'But he is such an intelligent player that when he is available, he is precious.'
