Luis Suarez issues Liverpool transfer advice over Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe

Former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez believes the Reds would be better off signing Erling Haaland than Kylian Mbappe.

Widely considered the two most promising talents in Europe, Borussia Dortmund's Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain's Mbappe have both been linked with a move to Anfield.

Haaland, 20, has scored an extraordinary 32 goals in 30 games this season, while Mbappe, 22, netted his 100th Ligue 1 goal on Sunday.

Suarez also reached a landmark at the weekend as he scored his 500th club goal in Atletico Madrid's victory over Alaves.

The prolific Uruguayan is certainly well-qualified to give a verdict on emerging strikers and has no doubt Haaland is the superior talent compared to Mbappe.

"He [Haaland] is a great player, he's at a spectacular level, he has an admirable physical strength," Suarez told Catalan outlet RAC 1 .

"He's one of the best No. 9s in the world and will define an era. I'm a bit more in favour of Haaland, but Mbappe is at a great level."

Both Haaland and Mbappe have suitors across Europe, with Atletico's local rivals Real Madrid believed to be in pursuit as they look to close the gap at the top of La Liga.

Suarez's tally of 19 goals in 25 games has fired Diego Simeone's side six points clear of Los Blancos and four points clear of Barcelona.

The 34-year-old moved to Atletico from Barcelona on a free transfer last summer and believes he has benefitted from staying in Spain.

"I think I was lucky to change team in the same league, the same referees, knowing my teammates, I didn't change much," said Suarez.

"I'm happy to be helping the team to be up there."

Suarez also singled out Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak for praise after he made his first penalty save in three years against Alaves, denying deny Joselu to ensure his side held on to all three points.

He added: "There's a reason Oblak is at a world-class level, after so long without saving a penalty, he was lucky yesterday and he helped the team which will give him confidence."
