Mingueza: Messi has to look after himself and no one else

Barcelona centre-back Oscar Mingueza has publicly told teammate Lionel Messi to look after his own interests when it comes to deciding his future this summer.

The 33-year-old's contract comes to an end on June 30 and no news has come out about what he plans to do.

"Nobody can complain about everything Messi has given us," Mingueza told El Larguero.

"He has to look after himself and no one else."

Mingueza's contract also comes to an end this summer, but he is calm about the matter.

"Yes, my contract ends this summer," the defender acknowledged.

"I'm very calm, nothing has been said, but I'm very calm. Let's hope I can stay at Barcelona."

Should he stay, there is set to be increased competition at the back in the form of Eric Garcia, who himself is set to arrive on a free after the conclusion of his contract with Manchester City.

"I've seen Eric Garcia grow up here at Barcelona, and I think he's a spectacular centre-back," Mingueza stated.

Ronald Koeman is the coach that has given Mingueza a chance to be a part of Barcelona's first-team squad, and the 21-year-old wants the Dutchman to stay on in his role next season.

"Should Koeman continue? You can see that the team has improved, the dynamic is very good," he revealed.

"This team needed time. I hope he continues next year."
