Real Madrid eyeing Jorge de Frutos as Lucas Vazquez's possible replacement

Real Madrid are considering a move for Levante winger Jorge de Frutos as a potential replacement for Lucas Vazquez, who has just a few months to run on his contract with Los Blancos.

De Frutos came through Real Madrid's youth system and was sold to Levante last summer, but Los Blancos retained 50 percent of his rights while also having a right of first refusal.

Ideal replacement for Lucas Vazquez?

The club's directors are very clear that the 24-year-old is the ideal replacement for Lucas, with his performances at Levante even catching the eye of Spain boss Luis Enrique, although he has not yet been called up to La Roja's squad.

Should De Frutos return to Real Madrid, he would be following a similar path to Lucas, who himself came back to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu after impressing at Espanyol.

De Frutos took his first steps as a professional with Rayo Majadahonda before moving to Castilla, where he played one season with Real Madrid's B team.

Last season he was loaned out to Real Valladolid, but his lack of game time - he made just five appearances in the first half of the season - led him to cut that loan short and join Rayo Vallecano for the second half of the campaign.

Then, last summer De Frutos made the switch to Levante in a deal worth up to five million euros. Real Madrid have tried to avoid buy-back options in order to avoid legal problems, but on this occasion they retained half of the player's rights, meaning that they have a right of first refusal if an offer comes in.

The reality is that the club, aware of De Frutos' potential, wanted it to be possible for them to bring him back in what is increasingly looking similar to the situation with Lucas in 2015.

De Frutos has played 30 games for Levante in all competitions, in which he has scored three goals and provided 10 assists. Of Las Granotas' 27 league matches this season, the only game that he has missed came away at Real Madrid.

A few weeks ago, Sevilla made an enquiry about signing De Frutos.
