Sheffield United vs Southampton Preview and Prediction 2021

Sheffield United vs Southampton predictions for Saturday’s Premier League contest at Bramall Lane. Can the Blades win back-to-back league games for the first time this season at Southampton’s expense? Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.

Sheffield United have won five of their last eight home games in all competitions.

Southampton have lost eight of their last nine Premier League fixtures.

Southampton have failed to score in five of their last six away assignments.

Sheffield United have scored exactly once in four of their last six home league matches.

Sheffield United show spirit

Sheffield United showed incredible grit on Wednesday evening when they dug to win three points against Aston Villa despite playing the final half an hour with ten men, and the Blades’ can draw from that same pool of determination against Southampton on Saturday.

A first-half David McGoldrick effort was enough for Chris Wilder’s troops to see off a frustrated Villa outfit at Bramall Lane, though Phil Jagielka’s dismissal early in the second period made the Blades’ fourth victory of the campaign all the more remarkable.

With a massive 12-point gap between United and safety, whispers about a potential late survival charge have been few, though the Blades showed in midweek that they are ready to exit the division with a fight.

Saints completely out of sorts

Southampton meanwhile, lost for the eighth time in nine league assignments on Monday when they were beaten 1-0 by Everton at Goodison Park.

The defeat, which was the Saints’ fifth in a row on the road, means they will start Saturday’s fixture in 14th position and Southampton will need to reverse their fortunes soon to avoid being dragged into a late-season relegation battle.

Blades worth backing

Bramall Lane has become a happy hunting ground for Sheffield United since the turn of the year, and the Blades have recorded five victories in eight matches there in league and cup since the first of January.

For Southampton, 2021 could have hardly gone worse however, and a horrible run of eight defeats in nine league games leaves the Saints looking vulnerable ahead of their trip to the Steel City.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s limp-looking charges haven’t won an away game since December, and with talismanic striker Danny Ings looking a shadow of his former self, Southampton failed to register in five of their last six matches on the road.

Buoyed by their victory over Villa, Sheffield United are worth backing in the generously priced double chance market against the hapless Saints, while our 1-0 correct score prediction backs the Blades to take advantage of their visitor’s lack of punch in the final third.

Sheffield United injuries and team news

Sheffield United are missing a number of key first team players this weekend, with the injured John Egan, Sander Berge, Jack O’Connell, Jack Robinson, Chris Basham and Jayden Bogle joined on the sidelines by the suspended Phil Jagielka.

Southampton injuries and team news

Michael Obafemi, Oriol Romeu, William Smallbone and Theo Walcott will all miss out for the Saints again on Saturday, while Kyle Walker-Peters, Ibrahima Diallo, Takumi Minamino and Moussa Djenepo are in a race to be fit.
