On 25 August 2017, La Liga side Barcelona announced that they had reached an agreement to sign Dembélé for €105 million-plus a reported €40 million add-ons after Neymar left to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million.

In his first league start for Barcelona at Getafe, he injured his hamstring and was ruled out for four months and from there it was back to back injury until the arrival of Koeman who decided to manager the player in a better way.
