Atletico Madrid stay top, but must win at the Camp Nou

Just as Atletico Madrid failed to make the most of their game in hand against Levante not so long ago, Barcelona unexpectedly slipped in theirs against Granada on Thursday.

Now, Los Colchoneros remain top of the LaLiga Santander table with each of the four contenders having played the same number of games, and they now have the title completely in their hands, knowing they're not relying on anybody else's results.

After losing themselves at Athletic Club at the weekend, Diego Simeone's side were given a boost in midweek as Barcelona stumbled.

Thursday's result was a welcomed surprise for Atleti, but it hasn't changed the fact that they need to go to the Camp Nou on May 8 and win, nothing else will do if they are to win the title.

Barcelona's slip had been spoken about

The idea that Barcelona could drop points against Granada was spoken about at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano. They were keen to stress that the game was yet to be played and that Granada wouldn't be pushovers.

That said, though, the result came as a surprise to everyone.

Now, every point up for grabs must be seized by Atletico, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla between now and the season's end.

If Los Rojiblancos win each of their five games, they will be crowned champions. A draw will open the door to Real Madrid, and a loss to Barcelona could hand it to the Catalans.

Atleti aren't forgetting that Real Madrid host Sevilla the day after their own trip to the Camp Nou, meaning that at least one of those sides will drop points that weekend.
