Chelsea stepping up interest in centre-back Niklas Sule

The player's contract ends at the end of next season and there's some uncertainty over his future and the Blues want to add a strong centre-back to their team in the summer and Sule is prime candidate.

According to reliable source The Athletic, Chelsea are 'stepping up their interest' in Bayern centre-back Niklas Sule.

The player's contract expires at the end of next season and at the moment, there have been no talks of an extension with his current club.

Bayern Munich are set to lose David Alaba and Jerome Boateng this summer but Sule’s contract situation leaves the club vulnerable and The Athletic claim Chelsea are ready to pounce on the uncertainty.

Sule is said to be ‘relaxed’ about his future and he’ll likely wait to see how Hansi Flick’s future plays out before making a decision on his future - the manager is expected to leave Bayern according to several reports.

The report adds that Thomas Tuchel will be given the funds to spend well in the transfer market and the Blues are keen on adding a strong centre-back to their ranks.

Sule is averaging 1.9 tackles per 90 in the Bundesliga this season and is dribbled past just 0.4 times per 90, returning a solid tackle success rate of 81.6% - the 25-year-old is one of the best centre-backs the Blues can sign this summer.
