Liverpool vs Aston Villa Preview and Prediction 2021

Liverpool vs Aston Villa predictions for Saturday’s Premier League contest at Anfield. Liverpool could move into the top four with a victory against the Villains. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.

Liverpool have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine league games at Anfield.

Each of the last two meetings between Liverpool have Villa have produced goals at both ends.

Aston Villa have won only two of their last eight league assignments.

Liverpool have won each of their last two Premier League matches.

Reds still in the hunt for top four

Liverpool’s fall from grace has been one of the season’s most compelling plotlines, though the Reds still have ample time to rescue their flailing domestic campaign.

Despite losing six of their last nine Premier League fixtures, Jurgen Klopp’s side can jump from seventh to fourth place with a victory against Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday and Liverpool look favourites to claim the points they need to make the leap.

The Merseysiders were well beaten by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, though their 3-0 win at Arsenal just days before was a throwback to last season’s impeccable Premier League form.

Villa look jaded

Aston Villa meanwhile, warmed up for their trip to Anfield with a 3-1 comeback win against Fulham, though the Villains toiled badly for 70 minutes before their late rally.

The Villains will kick-off Saturday’s fixture just five points behind Liverpool with a game in hand, though their recent performances suggest they lack the staying power to maintain their pursuit of continental qualification.

Jack Grealish’s absence has been key, and at the time of writing, their talismanic skipper remains a major injury doubt having suffered a setback in his recovery.

Goals at both end worth backing

Aston Villa famously tonked Liverpool 7-2 in the reverse league fixture between the clubs in October in a bizarre early-season contest that was littered with deflected goals and unfit footballers.

While a repeat of that result seems as unlikely as the Reds’ successfully defending their title, both teams could impact the scoresheet again in Saturday’s rematch.

Jurgen Klopp could ring the changes with an eye on next week’s crucial Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Real Madrid, and if the hosts deploy a weakened XI, Villa should have more opportunities than usual to get up the pitch.

Even with a full complement of players, Liverpool’s defensive record has been poor at Anfield, where they have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine attempts, so expect Villa to notch this weekend.

Alongside backing both teams to score, a 2-1 home win is our favoured correct score prediction however.  Liverpool continue to look ropy in their own third, but they have quality to burn further up the pitch and the Reds can eventually outgun a leggy-looking Villa at Anfield.

Liverpool injuries and team news

Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson remain long-term absentees for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp could shuffle his pack ahead of the Reds’ return leg against Real Madrid next week, and Curtis Jones, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri could make the XI as a result.

Aston Villa injuries and team news

Wesley is still absent for Aston Villa, while Kortney Hause is also rated as doubtful. Jack Grealish is also a big doubt having suffered an injury setback last week.

Trezeguet scored twice off the bench against Fulham and the winger could be line to start against Liverpool.
