Messi requests suspension of contract renewal talks until the end of the season

Lionel Messi has requested that his father ends all contract renewal talks until Barcelona finish the current La Liga campaign, according to COPE's Helena Condis.

The Barca skipper recently led his team to their first piece of silverware in almost 2 years following the defeat of Athletic Bilbao in the Copa Del Rey last week.

Now, Messi has turned his laser focus on La Liga title and doesn't want any distraction from his contract extension negotiations with Barca.

It remains unclear if Messi will sign a new contract, but Barca president Joan Laporta has expressed his confidence that Messi wants to renew.
