Perez: 'It wasn’t hard to convince Barca president Laporta to join ESL'

“It wasn’t hard to convince Laporta, that doesn’t happen when you speak with responsible people. Barcelona are going through a bad situation financially and know that this is the future.

Financially, it saves everyone, it saves football,” Real Madrid president and the European Super League first chairman Florentino Perez has told El Chiringuito.

Well, Barcelona's net debt has risen to €1.2bn since the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe last year. As per reports, the Catalans will earn around €350m for just joining the ESL.

“If I had to, I would leave my duty as Super League president for Joan Laporta to take over tomorrow,” Perez added on his relationship with the Barca president.

In January, however, Laporta claimed that he doesn't support the ESL creation as it 'represents everything that is wrong with football'.
