Aguero 'set for huge pay cut' as Barca terms revealed ahead of summer transfer

Sergio Aguero is closing in on a move to Barcelona but may have to take a pay cut of up to 40 per cent.

The striker will leave Manchester City this summer when his contract expires and looks like he will head to the Nou Camp.

But the Catalans are not in a great financial situation as they deal with huge debts.

As a result they cannot pay the huge wages that Aguero may hope for as he closes on a two-year deal with the Spanish giants.

Barcelona are set to offer the 32-year-old £150,000-a-week - which is considerably less than the £250,000-a-week he currently pockets, reports the Sun.

That said Aguero is set to earn himself a healthy signing bonus with £5m coming his way when he does put pen to paper on a deal.

The forward will also earn another £5m across the duration of his contract based on various proposals and is not put off by the financial hit he will have to take.

Barcelona currently have the highest wage bill in Europe and are looking to exercise the free transfer market.

They have also been linked with moves for Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay this summer.

Both players worked with current Catalans boss Ronald Koeman when he was in charge of the Netherlands.

There is also increasing optimism that Lionel Messi will remain at the Nou Camp despite his efforts to seek pastures new in the summer.

Barcelona remain in contention for the La Liga title but are running out of time to reel in Atletico Madrid.

A draw against Levante last time out means they are four points off the summit with two games remaining.

Aguero could still arrive as a Champions League winner with City 90 minutes away from lifting the trophy.
