Arteta Reacts About His Arsenal Future After Europa League Ouster

Mikel Arteta watched Arsenal fail to a resilient Villarreal and were dumped out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

The Gunners’ boss is under increased pressure after their defeat to his predecessor Unai Emery’s side leaves them facing their first season without European competition since 1995/96.

And Arteta conceded his side have not done enough to convince fans they are moving in the right direction.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Arteta said: “We have to show that on the pitch. It’s not about talking. We are hugely disappointed as we wanted to deliver something special to them after the difficult season that we had.”

Quizzed whether his job was now on the line, Arteta said: “I think everybody’s job always is under scrutiny.”

He was then asked if he still had confidence in his ability to lift the players, to which Arteta responded defiantly, “I wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t.”
