Five Senior Players Set To Leave Arsenal Because Of Arteta?

At least five senior members of the Arsenal first-team squad want to leave the club this summer, according to reports.

All reports suggest Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is backing manager Mikel Arteta despite a hugely disappointing season on the pitch.

However, extra money through player sales will only improve Arteta’s chances of signing the calibre of players he wants.

And there are five first-team stars who are claimed to want out of the club already.

According to The Athletic, the list includes goalkeeper Bernd Leno, defenders David Luiz and Hector Bellerin, as well as Granit Xhaka and Willian as the quintet of players who want to move on.

Luiz is out of contract in the summer so his exit looks the most straightforward.

Leno has made a number of high-profile errors this season and has been dropped for a couple of recent Premier League matches.

Bellerin has been out of favour in 2021 and looks increasingly likely to be leaving the Gunners after a 10-year association with the club.

Xhaka wanted to leave in January 2020 after a public falling out with Arsenal supporters earlier that season.

Willian still has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract and turns 33 in August.

Arsenal would likely have to accept a nominal fee for the winger in order to get his large wages off the books.
