John Barnes calls on Liverpool to sign Brighton midfield enforcer Yves Bissouma

John Barnes has called on Liverpool to make a move for Brighton star Yves Bissouma as the Anfield legend insists that the midfield enforcer would suit Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Seagulls star, 24, has impressed over three seasons on the south coast and as a result has been linked with a move away from Graham Potter's side this summer.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the Ivorian while Liverpool are understood to be tracking the highly-rated midfielder and are prepared to position themselves at the front of the queue for Bissouma's signature.

And Reds legend Barnes has backed a move for Brighton's midfield star this summer, insisting that Bissouma would be a good fit for Klopp's side.

'Liverpool should sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton,' Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

'In terms of what Liverpool want, he is the type of player that will suit how Liverpool play.'

It has been reported that the Reds would have to stump up £40m to prise Bissouma from Brighton this summer.

Liverpool are readying for a busy window as Klopp looks to return his side to the summit of English football, having put up a meagre fight to defend their crown this season.

The Reds have let slip of their grip on the Premier League with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City romping to the title.

Klopp's side had risked missing out on Champions League football but a top four place is in their hands heading into the final game of the season at home to Crystal Palace.

And Barnes singled out midfield playmaker Thiago Alcantara as a player who will thrive next season when Liverpool are back to full strength

He will thrive when Liverpool get back to full fitness and will start to play more consistently.

'You could argue that he has been one of the best players in the last few games, but that doesn't mean that the team is playing well, just that he is.

'Liverpool have been used to playing in a particular way, and while he has been very good, the nature of the type of player he is, has affected the way others play. Liverpool's style has not been used to this type of player in midfield.

'Once that situation is resolved, and the centre-backs are fit again, Liverpool are more solid defensively. Thiago will have more of an impact, as much as he has been playing well.'
