Newcastle 'eye double loan swoop for Chelsea duo Abraham & Gilmour next season'

Newcastle are hoping to successfully scour the loan market once again this time with a double raid

Newcastle are hoping to successfully scour the loan market once again this time with a double raid on Chelsea for Tammy Abraham and Billy Gilmour.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce is likely to be working on a limited budget this summer as he bids to improve on their 12th-place finish this season.

According to the Northern Echo, as a result of this Newcastle have enquired to Chelsea about the availability of both Abraham and Gilmour on loan.

However, the newly-crowned European champions are reluctant to do business at present - although Newcastle hope their stance could change further into the summer window.

At present, Chelsea have no desire to loan out Gilmour. Manager Thomas Tuchel stopped the 19-year-old going out on loan during the January window and is keen to develop him at Stamford Bridge.

However, Newcastle hope to entice Chelsea by pointing to the successful loan spell that Arsenal's Joe Willock has just had at St James' Park this season and the effect they could play on Gilmour's development.

The teenager, who has been called up to Scotland's Euro 2020 squad, finds himself behind N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the Chelsea midfield pecking order at present.

Abraham's situation is more difficult as the west London outfit are looking to sell him after he became distinctly out of favour under Tuchel.

The Blues value the England international at £40m but currently have no takers at the price - with Aston Villa and Wolves both wary against that fee during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

West Ham have also been interested but were only considering a £25m bid.
