Real Madrid supporters pick Raul as their preferred coach to replace Zidane

Although Massimiliano Allegri is viewed as the favourite to succeed Zinedine Zidane this summer, MARCA readers have voted Raul Gonzalez as their ideal candidate to become Real Madrid's next head coach.

As many as 150,000 votes were registered in MARCA's poll, with 57 percent of the participants voting for the Castilla coach as the preferred heir to Zidane.

Joachim Low was voted by 17 percent of the participants, followed by those who do not want any of the three to succeed the Frenchman and would opt for another coach (16 percent).

Meanwhile, only 10 percent of the audience's votes went to Allegri, who hasn't coached any team since May 2019, when he departed Juventus.

The name of Zidane's successor will not be made public until the season is over for Real Madrid, but the Italian tactician and Raul are the leading candidates for the job.

Raul has shown his potential as a coach with his work in Real Madrid's academy and the club's B team, and he would be delighted to replace Zidane this summer if he is given the opportunity to do so by the club.

"This is my home and it's where I want to be," Raul said on Sunday.

"It's not the time to talk about anyone's future.

"I'm an employee of this club. Since I decided to be a coach three or four years ago, it was to be able to be at home, at my club, [to] gain experience, train myself in the best way.

"I'm a man of this club, I'm happy at my home and excited to continue."
