Revealed! The Big Problem With Super Eagles Centre-Forwards

Super Eagles Chief scout, Tunde Adelakun, has revealed how coach Gernot Rohr picks his 23-man squad for the Nigeria Senior National team.

The scout explained that on a weekly basis he monitors an average of 50 players for selection to the Super Eagles and thereafter forwards his scouting report to Rohr, who takes the final decision on who is called up.

“I watch these players every week, speak to their people and give my report,” he told TVC.

“(In this respect) I am in regular touch with over 50 players on the average.”

The Eagles work with a standard 23-man squad.

“We cannot pick more than 23 players at any time for our camp, that is two players per position plus three goalkeepers,” Adelakun revealed.

Adelakun said this arrangement has limited the number of strikers they could call up at any time.

“We have Simy Nwankwo, (Kelechi) Iheanacho,  (Victor) Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Terem Moffi, Josh Maja among others are all center-forwards and we can only pick two of them,” he said.

“If we could have all five of them in camp, we would. But who would we drop? It’s a problem for Gernot Rohr to handle.

“This is a hugely competitive position, I receive countless calls on this and I am not even the coach, who makes the final selection.”

However, he said it is “a nice problem” to have.

“It’s a nice problem to have, to know you have players left, right and centre scoring goals all over in Europe,” he said.
