Roy Keane doubles down on Cavani "worry" after new Man Utd contract

Manchester United hero Roy Keane has admitted he is worried about the club's plans for the summer transfer window after Edinson Cavani's contract was extended.

Cavani signed a new one-year contract this week to extend his stay at Old Trafford until the summer of 2022.

The Uruguayan has been a hit at United since joining on a free last year, and the club was eager to keep hold of him.

United are believed to be eager to sign a new striker this summer, but Roy Keane is worried that they'll now decide against reinforcing their attack due to Cavani's new contract.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained that he believes United need to sign another four or five new players in order to compete with newly-crowned champions Manchester City.

United named a makeshift side to face Leicester City on Tuesday night and were beaten 2-1 by the Foxes.

But Keane believes that team proves United need strength in depth, and urged the club to continue spending this summer once the window opens.

United have been linked with a number of other attackers this summer, including Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

And outspoken pundit Keane believes they need investment in order to build a team worthy of challenging for the league title.

"Well, he's obviously done very well for the club," he said of Cavani's new contract. "I worry about the bigger picture for the club in terms of attacking players for next season.

"I still think United need to go out and buy big if they want to go back to winning league titles.

"The group of players they have at the moment are nowhere near winning the league title.

"You need a big squad. We've seen the best squad, Man City, they're competing. You need a big squad.

"We saw that the other night against Leicester. If you ever wanted proof, that was it. The backup players aren't good enough.

"Ole said after the game they need some players, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago they need one or two, but they need four or five players to compete with Man City."
