Argentina vs Chile Preview and Predictions 2021

Argentina vs Chile predictions for Monday’s Copa America Group A  clash at Estádio Nilton Santos. Argentina were unable to get the win they wanted against Chile when they faced off in World Cup qualifying earlier this month, will this Copa clash be any different? Read on for our free Copa America predictions and betting tips.

Argentina are unbeaten in their last 13 games, winning seven and drawing six.

There has been at least three goals in nine of the last 12 Copa America matches involving Chile.

Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten encounters between the sides.

Untrustworthy Argentina still have firepower

Argentina will be fancied to get their Copa America campaign off to a winning start against Chile on Monday, but Lionel Scaloni’s side are becoming difficult to trust.

The Albiceleste lengthened their unbeaten run to 13 with draws against their neighbours to the west and Colombia in the recent World Cup qualifiers.

But they were favourites for both games and won neither, failing to overcome an inconsistent and ageing Chile at home before chucking away a two-goal lead in Barranquilla.

Just over a week later and these two sides meet again – this time on neutral turf in Brazil – for the opening game of a tournament that has seen some memorable head-to-head contests in recent years.

Chile utilised their home advantage to beat Argentina on penalties in the final of the 2015 edition before pulling off the same trick again to defend their title against Lionel Messi and co a year later in the US.

Time is running out for Messi to lift some international silverware and Scaloni has assembled a youthful squad around the great man to give him another shot this year.

But the evidence so far suggests the team is yet to gel, although there is a burgeoning partnership up top between Lautaro Martinez and Messi that could still fire them to glory.

But for one world class save from Claudio Bravo, the hosts could have won the recent World Cup qualifier 2-1 and we think that is still probably the best play in the correct score market.

Both teams generally tend to register when these meet – eight times in the last ten – and the odds for that can be boosted by adding in an Over 2.5 goals bet.

Chile have become a little frayed at the edges defensively of late and also trend to Over 2.5 goals in the Copa America.

Nine of La Roja’s last 12 Copa games have featured at least three goals and the percentage is even higher in group games – 77%.
